Meridian General Contracting Inc. – Our Story
Meridian General Contracting Inc. is a local family-owned business lead by Mr. Kelly Frye. Mr. Frye is a Florida State Certified General Contractor with over 35 years of experience in construction, residential design and real estate development. He has completed over $150 million in development and construction projects. During his career, he has owned and led companies in every role of construction and real estate development: General Contractor, Sub-Contractor, Land Acquisition, Land Entitlement, Design-Build, Development Services, Developer, and Development Partner.
In 1984, while studying for a degree in English Literature, Kelly built his first duplex home in Orlando and discovered his true calling. He formed Frye Properties and began his career as a home builder while continuing his college education at night. He changed his major and earned his Bachelor of Building Construction degree from the University of Florida in 1990 before moving to Sarasota.
In Sarasota, he started Breckinridge Custom Homes and served on the Board of Directors of the Home Builders Association. Kelly’s home building focus has been on design and quality of finishes earning him a Parade of Homes Award for Residential Design. He has built modest affordable homes and multi-million-dollar custom homes here in the Sarasota area and in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Decades later, Kelly’s businesses have survived four recessions and now a pandemic, while many builders went out of business in the great recession of 2008-2009. This is a great testament to the quality of Kelly’s work, residential designs, and sound business ethics. Kelly and his businesses have never filed bankruptcy, and have never been a subject of collections or judgements.
Kelly has been married since 1991 and has two adult children, a son and a daughter. He enjoys volunteering for such charitable organizations as Our Daily Bread and assisting the Florida Department of Children & Families with children in crisis need. He is an avid snow skier and boater. His various companies have been Home Builders, Commercial General Contractors, and Real Estate Developers.
